I have been wanting to cut Macie's hair for a while now, but just convincing her to let me fix her hair is a quite the process. So every day this week we have been talking about cutting her hair. The first day she was all excited. I was quite surprised about her excitement, and then she asked if I was going to cut it like Bridger's. I of coarse said no, and then she lost interest. But after several days of talking about getting her hair cut she decided that it would be okay to do. So of coarse I stopped what I was doing and hauled her to the bathroom to begin the process of just getting her hair ready to cut.
In this picture you can see how long her hair is when you pull it straight and how short it is when you just let it do it's thing. The picture is pre-hair cut.
People always ask how I fix her hair, so we will start at the beginning.
I have to cut all the rubber bands out of her hair with toe nail clippers. Lots of times her curly hair gets all wrapped around the rubber bands so we have to cut each band several times to get it out. Then I try to untangle her braids or twists while her hair is still dry. I can't use a comb or brush on this part, because her hair is too tangled to attempt that. Then I get her hair wet in the bath tub with me in the tub to help hold her down and make sure all of her hair gets wet. Then I cake on the conditioner.
I let the conditioner sit in her hair while she plays in the water and then I start combing her hair out...with her screaming and often crying because it hurts so bad. I try to be as careful as I can and she keeps grabbing my hand to stop me and tells me to do it slow, which I think she is asking for me to do it soft. So I try my best to be "slow".
Last summer my sister helped me relax Macie's hair. But thanks to my sister's OCD the half that she combed ended up being almost straight and the half I combed was just relaxed curls. (I still love ya Robin!) But we have learned to disguise that to the best we can while her hair grew out. Today once her hair was combed out I parted it in to sections and began to cut. I decided to cut all the straight hair off...so I cut a lot off. Once I started I wanted to cry because it looked like her hair was so short, but of coarse I couldn't stop in the middle of a hair cut so I kept on cutting. Macie was entertained spraying water on the mirror and wiping it off with a wash cloth.
When I finished with the hair cut it was back in the bath tub to rinse out the conditioner and see if I missed any hair. It is so hard to cut her hair, because when you comb it out to cut it as soon as you let it go it shrinks up several inches and it is hard to tell if it is even. But we managed to finish and she didn't even cry today! But I was told to go "slow" about 20 times. Well, it is short enough that all the straight hair is pretty much gone and it is still long enough to pull up in a pony tail...or two pony tails. Macie loves to have two pony tails because she thinks it is bunny ears...anything to make her happy.

You always do such a great job on her hair. And I thought thin hair was problematic :)
Good job Janae. She looks cute as always!
